I know I’m not the only high-strung mom in the world… It’s a hunch, anyway. While I don’t have amazing insight into why I am this way or great advice as to how to “relax” and enjoy these messy moments, I do have a grander purpose behind the craziness that keeps me mellowed out.

My purpose is the big picture, the grand scheme of God’s plan for the world outside my four walls. When I’m caught up in a moment of insanity as it seems, or I feel completely incompetent, I am reminded that God is my helper, that He has a big plan for this family in the world, and that His intention is to fill the earth with the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Isaiah 9:11). It’s a huge idea that covers my petty little complaints. Yes, my walls and floors might be coated in sparkles and crusty play-dough crumbs (which drives my type A personality up the wall!), but does it really matter in the big scheme of God’s plan? Pen can come off walls, or at least paint will cover it. However, my attitudes during this impressionable time of my kids’ lives are not erasable. It’s a one-time shot.
